A cosa servono i manichini invisibili?
Il settore della vendita di abbigliamento on-line è un settore in forte crescita sia in Italia che all'estero. Ormai tutte le maggiori case di moda hanno il loro sito internet e un numero sempre più grande di piccoli rivenditori e aziende stanno facendo il passo verso la creazione di una piattaforma e-commerce. Per questi motivi, negli ultimi hanni i fotografi professionisti hanno iniziato ad utilizzare manichini che permettono di realizzare fotografie in cui si veda anche l'interno del capo.
Prima dell'avvento di questo rivoluzionario tipo di manichini, i fotografi dovevano ripiegare sull'utilizzo di altri metodi non ottimali, che richiedevano molte ore di lavoro e raramente davano i risultati sperati.
Il vecchio metodo più ultilizzato era quello di fotografare prima l'esterno e poi l'interno del capo su un manichino, per poi ricostruire l'immagine con Photoshop. Tuttavia, questo metodo richiedeva una notevole conoscenza di Photoshop in quanto è necessario ricostruire le ombre dell'interno del capo per farle combaciare con quelle del'esterno, oltre a richiedere molte ore di lavoro.
Un altro metodo a volte utilizzato era quello di costruire un manichino in fil di ferro, ma i capi tendevano ad assumere strane pieghe e a rientrare nel manichino, creando così foto antiestetiche.
Un ultimo metodo era quello di utilizzare un manichino trasparente. Il problema era che il materiale trasparente tende sia a deformare l'interno a causa di un effetto lente, che a riflettere la luce circostante, rovinando così la foto.
Fortunatamente, alcune case produttrici di manichini ebbero l'idea di ovviare a questo problema tagliando il manichino così che esso diventi 'invisibile' una volta indossato il vestito.

What is the ‘ghost mannequin effect’?
The on-line fashion industry is one of the largest-growing sectors. All of the most important fashion brands have their own online website nowadays, and small privately owned boutiques are catching up by creating their own e-commerce platforms.
However, a good optimised website is not enough in order to attract new customers. In fact, the importance of good quality images is often underestimated. The latest technique used by clothing photographers to present garments is that of using ‘ghost mannequins’, which are body forms that present clothes as if suspended in thin-air.
Before the advent of ghost mannequins, sometimes also called invisible mannequins, there were several, more time-consuming and suboptimal ways of achieving the ghosted mannequin effect.
The first and most commonly used method was that of using a standard mannequin. The photographer would shoot the garment from the front, and then turn it inside out so that he could shoot it again with the label showing. He would, then, have to merge the two photos using a editing software packaging. This process is, obviously, extremely time-consuming and creates photos of very poor quality. Furthermore, the work that needs to be done is fairly complex, thus there is the need of a professional photographer with a long experience with photo editing.
Another method was that of using a mannequin made out of wire. Along with the problem of creating such a mannequin, there was the even more important problem originated by the fact that the garments tended to curve inwards inside the surface of the mannequin shape, hence making the photographs look unusual and aesthetically unattractive. In addition, this did not eliminate the need of editing the photos.
The last option was that of employing a transparent mannequin. This method is the least optimal as the lights will glare from it and disturb the quality of the photo because of the nature of the material used to create these mannequins. This problem also originates another, more difficult to solve, issue. In fact, because of the reflections of the light, the editing of such images becomes even more difficult and time-consuming.
It is, therefore, self-evident that there was the necessity of a better product. As mentioned above, the mannequin industry met this need by creating a new type of mannequins. It did so by proposing a mannequin that has been cut out round the neck so as to allow photographers to take a photo that shows the back tag of the garment in an easy and efficient way.
Ghost mannequins, or invisible mannequins, save photographers countless hours on the computer that were needed in the past to make such photos. All they have to do now is dress the ghosted mannequin and take the photo. And that’s it!

I tagli ad U sono indicati per capi rigidi come cappotti, giacche e capi-spalla. Questo è dovuto al fatto che, grazie alla rigidità del capo stesso, questo non tende ad assumere pieghe indesiderate. Il vantaggio di questo tipo di taglio è che permette di lasciare il capo semislacciato, così da mostrare non solo l'etichetta, ma anche la fodera. The garments can, therefore, be left undone so as to show both the label and the lining. This characteristic of these mannequins is an advantage when shooting winter clothing as it allows to show their padding. It is possible to make such deep cuts because our mannequins are made of icorene, which is a resistant and shockproof plastic material.
Se ho bisogno di fotografare entrambi i tipi di capi, devo per forza acquistare tutti e due i tipi di manichini?
No, può semplicemente comprare un bustino di ricambio. Anzi, questo le permette anche di poter comprare un bustino di ricambio non tagliato così che potrà sostituirlo a quello che possiede per poter fare foto anche con un manichino normale. Il cambio del bustino è possibile in quanto il manichino è composto da più parti: una base, le gambe fino alla vita, le braccia e il bustino che può essere comodamente cambiato svitandolo dal resto del manichino. Inoltre, grazie a questa caratteristica dei nostri manichini, potrà anche acquistare bustini con e senza braccia a seconda del tipo di foto che deve realizzare.

No, you can simply buy a bust form with a different cut and then remove the one that is already on your mannequin by unscrewing it from the legs and replacing it with the new one. In fact, our mannequins are made of multiple parts: the legs, the bust form, the arms, and a base. This even allows you to buy a bust form that has not been cut, so that, when replaced with the one that came originally with the mannequin, you will have a normal mannequin. Furthermore, since the arms are interchangeable, you can buy the ones you prefer and then change them according to your needs.

Il taglio ad H è un tipo di taglio particolarmente adatto alla realizzazione di fotografie di giacche. Infatti, spesso la forma della giacca rende visibile anche il suo interno nella parte inferiore della stessa. Se si utilizzasse un manichino con un altro tipo di taglio, si avrebbe un effetto antiestetico poiché si vedrebbe parte del manichino. Invece, questo manichino permette di ovviare a questo possibile problema e di mostrare la fodera interna.

H-Cuts are recommended for shooting suit jackets. In fact, the shape of the lower part of a suit jacket makes the interior of this garment visible. However, if there were not a cut in the lower part of the mannequin, it would show the mannequin instead of its lining. This cut is, thus, the most effective way of shooting these garments.

Per realizzare questo tipo di fotografie, abbiamo realizzato dei manichini con taglio a V molto aperta sul bacino in modo da mostrare l'interno del pantalone. Inoltre, il manichino non presenta i piedi così da non doverli poi eliminare successivamente attraverso un ritocco fotografico. Per quanto riguarda i modelli disponibili, abbiamo due possibilità. La prima è quella di acquistare un manichino senza base che presenta dei fili trasparenti per poter essere appeso. Il vantaggio di questo modello e che non necessita di essere scontornato con Photoshop. Per quanto riguarda l'altra possibilità, questa consiste in un manichino con base. Il vantaggio è una maggiore stabilità, tuttavia diventa necessario scontornare il manichino con Photoshop o con un software simile se non si vuole mostrare la base. In ogni modo, entrambe le versioni sono ulteriormente personalizzabili e permettono di mostrare l'etichetta del capo. Ad esempio, le gambe del manichino possono essere ulteriormente tagliate per realizzare foto di pantaloncini o costumi da bagno.
How can I make a photograph of a pair of trousers or jeans so as to show the back label, but without showing the mannequin?
We have created a type of mannequins with a wide V-Cut on the pelvis so as to show the back tag of the trousers. The feet of the mannequin have been cut out so that it will not be necessary to delete them using Photoshop. We currently have two available models. The first model doesn’t have a base and it can be hanged where needed. The main advantage is that it is not necessary to delete the base using Photoshop. On the other hand, the other model is a mannequin with a base. The advantage is that it is more stable, but one needs to delete the base using Photoshop. Both models can be further customized. For example, the legs can be cut at a higher point so as to use them to take pictures of shorts or skirts.
Come posso realizzare da solo un manichino per fare foto di e-commerce?
Materiale occorrente:
manichino, busto o torso di materiale idoneo ad essere tagliato e lavorato;
un pennarello indelebile;
un trapano;
un seghetto alternativo;
carta vetrata;
spugna abrasiva (Scotch-Brite).
Per prima cosa occorre capire quale tipo di taglio effettuare in relazione al tipo di abiti che si intendono fotografare.
Stabilito il tipo di taglio da realizzare occorre segnare la parte da tagliare con un pennarello.
Dopo aver segnato la parte da tagliare occorre praticare con un trapano uno o più fori che servono ad inserire la lama del seghetto alternativo in corrispondenza della parte da tagliare.
Tagliare con un seghetto alternativo in corrispondenza della parte da eliminare.
Ripulire e carteggiare la parte tagliata con della carta vetrata e quindi lisciare con una spugna abrasiva.
